20 days to the XX Commonwealth Games

With only a few weeks to go till the Opening Ceremony of the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasow, the city is almost ready to host nations from around the globe and showcase the city at its’ best! 17 sports will take place across 13 venues in the city – the Competition Schedule provides more info on the sports, venues and times.

The Queen’s Baton arrives in the city centre after 288 days of travel from Buckingham Palace around the world and back to George Square in the heart of the city centre. During its’ 288 day journey the Queen’s Baton has visited “70 nations and territories, covered 190,000 kilometres and involved a third of the world’s population”. Pretty impressive logistics.

Hopefully it will make as big an impression as the London Olympics’ torch did when it arrived, and I am curious to find out what the Queen wrote inside…

And for those of you coming to the city, the Council is setting up Live Zones with screens and entertainment, and there will be various activites on around the city. People Make Glasgow and Visit Scotland sites provide some useful info on what to do and where to go when you’ve had enough of the Games.

If you will have time, we’d love to meet with you when you’re here – just email info@fistraltraining.com and we’ll organise a catch-up.

Regardless whether you watch live, on tv or just follow the progress and news updates, here’s hoping it will be as good as the London Olympics and keeps on inspiring our younger generations to get up and be active – no pressure Glasgow!
