PhD students and Post Doctoral Research Assistants at The University of Bristol ACCIS and CoSem Centres for Doctoral Training attended our online training “Increase Your Stress Hardiness and Survive Your PhD.”
The challenge of PhD study brings with it a range of factors likely to create stress. Any PhD student may suffer the stress of unexpected problems or disappointments during a PhD. In addition to this, in the current global circumstances, all PhD students are having to deal with a raft of unforeseen problems initiated by the Covid 19 pandemic. On this course they learn a range of self-management techniques to minimise the impact of stressful experiences on their ability to function effectively.
The group gave the following insight as to some of the techniques they’ll try in order to manage stress:
- “Being rational”
- “Deep breathing”
- “Sleeping”
- “Time out”
- “Affect labelling”
All attendees agreed unanimously that it was a useful session they would recommend to a colleague, and they would indeed attend more Fistral webinars. We look forward to hopefully seeing them again on future training and wish them all the best with their studies.
