David Bartholomew
Associate, Trainer
David Bartholomew is a project and programme management professional with over 35 years’ of experience in delivering results. Originally trained in IT systems and programming, with an MSc in Intelligent Systems, David transitioned to management and providing business solutions. He has worked with a variety of SMEs, FTSE 100 corporate clients, public sector bodies, international NGOs and UN organisations, spanning many sectors including; finance, utilities, travel, electronics, manufacturing, IT, legal, aerospace, public healthcare, intellectual property, and advanced research.
A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), PRINCE2 practitioner, Scrum Master (PSM I and CSM) and Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), David also holds a postgraduate teaching certificate and since the 1990s and has delivered high quality training to over 4000 delegates in industry and higher education institutions in the EEC at graduate and postgraduate level. He was the module lead for project management at the University of Wales Lampeter where he also taught subjects ranging from systems analysis to workplace psychology.
David now works with organisations to identify opportunities to strengthen project delivery, develop individual skills, and enhance outcomes. Primarily, David works to develop leadership, management, and development capacity by: developing bespoke training interventions, coaching and mentoring staff, developing processes and governance procedures and designing and delivering facilitation for a variety of project and stakeholder meetings including:
- Project initiation
- Requirements gathering
- Process development
- Risk workshops
- Stakeholder communications
As a Fistral Associate, David has run bespoke risk assessment workshops with live outputs for senior staff working on ESA’s ATHENA and JUICE missions and facilitated specialist risk management sessions. He has also worked with Fraser to deliver Fistral workshops and mentoring to support UCC’s roll-out of a Unified PM Approach for strategic projects and masterclasses, conducted mentoring for HR and Academic Administration teams in NUI Galway and has facilitated advanced Masterclasses in Project Management and tailored risk workshop/teaching sessions for AFRC in Glasgow.
David’s commitment is founded on two underlying beliefs: that project delivery is an area which can add significant organisational value; and that this will only happen if it is applied correctly with commitment and investment in people.
A professionally certified PM practitioner, Scrum Master and active consultant applying best practice day-to-day in academic and industry settings as well as when designing and developing training; David Bartholomew can evidence a strong working knowledge of a range of relevant project management methodologies and toolkit. These include, but are not limited to, PMBOK, Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, RAD and PRINCE 2. In the past year, he has designed and successfully delivered new Agile PM and Scrum courses for Fistral to deliver to customers in a range of contexts including the Space sector.
Dave is currently conducting personal research into human judgment and decision-making and his other interests include; amateur dramatics, property renovation, equine sports, and dogs.
