Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Policy Statement
Fistral Training and Consultancy Ltd has been providing highly successful practical training courses and consultancy to major organisations and universities throughout the UK and abroad since 1991.
Specialising in delivering expert tuition and support, we assist organisations in maximising efficiency by providing staff from graduate to board-level with new skills and practical techniques that can be confidently applied to improve performance and delivery.
At Fistral, we believe that training should change working practices in a measurable, positive way. The training experience should be stimulating and enjoyable as well as instructive.
Statement of commitment
We are committed to equity and to making fair treatment an important part of everything we do. We make this commitment because we want to provide the best service we can to our customers and because we value the contribution our employees make to achieving this.
The aim of our EDI policy
We aim to make sure that our courses and consultancy services are accessible and applied fairly to everyone within our existing and future customer base, and that all our existing and future employees have equal opportunities. We embrace the Equality Act 2010, and moreover as an organisation we believe that this is a fundamental attitude and approach that should underpin everything we do and promote, as individuals and as a responsible, inclusive and supportive company.
We will take action to identify and get rid of any direct or indirect discriminatory practices, which act as barriers to achieving these aims. We oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination, whether because of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, sex or gender reassignment, marital status, family status, sexuality, religion or beliefs, disability, age or any other condition or requirement which places a person at a disadvantage and cannot be justified.
Putting our policy into practice
To achieve the aims of our EDI policy statement in delivering our services, we will do the following:
Comply with the PMI’s (Project Management Institute) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
Continually look to improve our offerings to make sure that the content is accessible to all.
Immediately act on feedback pertaining to an experience on one of our courses.
Understand that some groups of people experience more disadvantage than others, and, where appropriate, target learning to meet their particular needs.
Make sure that all customers and course attendees are treated with dignity and respect, and that we recognise and value people’s differences.
Consult and involve customers, potential attendees and/or community groups in the way we plan and deliver courses.
Make sure that any complaints are responded to efficiently and promptly.
Communicate our EDI policy statement to contractors delivering services on our behalf, and take account of equity, diversity and inclusion factors when we enter in to contracts.
To achieve the aims of our EDI policy statement in employment, we will do the following:
Make sure that our recruitment, selection, training and promotion processes support us to appoint the best people for the job, and to develop and maintain the highest standards of skills and expertise.
Create and maintain a workplace where all employees are treated with dignity and respect, and where the need to achieve a balance between work and personal responsibilities is recognised.
Continue to develop fair and flexible employment policies and practices that respond to the different needs of employees, and include employees in the development process.
Provide that incidents of discrimination or harassment, from colleagues or customers, are dealt with fairly and promptly.
To achieve the aims of our EDI policy statement in events and training courses, we will do the following:
Recognise that attendees start from different places in their learning journey, and make all efforts to help individuals reach equal learning outcomes
Make sure that the content of our courses and course materials are accessible to participants’ needs.
Treat all participants, colleagues or customers in a fair and honest way that respects and supports them as individuals.
Create and maintain a learning environment where all participants are treated with dignity and respect.
Ensure that everyone is made welcome and comfortable in the learning environment.
Allow all participants fair and equal opportunity to contribute to group and individual knowledge and tasks as they wish, and in the most appropriate way.
Continue to develop flexible and accessible materials that promote engagement with learning and personal development to a wide audience.
Be considerate to the communication and learning styles of participants and ensure that they are able to access knowledge and interact with others in a way that is most suitable for the individual.
Deal fairly and promptly with any incidents of discrimination or harassment, from participants, colleagues or customers.
To help us put our EDI policy into practice, we will do the following:
Act in line with all relevant legislation and codes of practice, as defined by either the Government (e.g. Equality Act 2010) or professional bodies (e.g. PMI, BCS, ICF).
Make sure that all employees and other people who help us deliver services are aware of this policy statement.
Develop and train our employees to help them recognise equality, diversity and inclusion issues and further understand their role and responsibilities in achieving equity.
Provide materials and training courses/events/materials that are accessible and appropriately targeted to the needs of individual participants and the group as a whole.
Interact with course participants, colleagues and customers in a way that is fair, honest and inclusive.
Include EDI considerations in all management processes so that it becomes part of everything we do.
Promote the principle of EDI whenever possible, share successes and good practice, and promise to provide a positive role model to other organisations and employers in our community.
Applying our EDI policy
This policy statement applies to all employees and to all activities.
Responsibility for carrying out our policy
All employees (permanent or sub-contracted) have a role in putting the policy into practice and supporting it. In particular they must:
Act in line with the policy and its related procedures.
Promote equal opportunities.
Treat colleagues, customers and attendees with dignity and respect.
Not unlawfully or unfairly discriminate.
Not harass or victimise others.
Challenge discrimination or inappropriate behaviour.
Report suspected discriminatory actions.

Any act or failure to act that breaks the relevant legislation may also result in legal action.
